how do I re-attach fuel pump strainer 1987 Vw Cabriolet?
The fuel pump strainer has fallen off of the fuel pump inside the fuel tank. any know how to re-attach the strainer? the pump holds the strainer by using a ring of small triangular pegs in a star shaped pattern the pegs have obviously bent forward allowing the strainer to fall off. Is it possible to open the strainer up without destroying it? please help, I need this car to get to work. Thank you.
Just go buy a new one. They are a friction fit to the bottom of the in-tank pump.
You could try a glue, but as gasoline is a solvent it isn't usually gonna work.
If you don't have any big foreign issue with debris / rust in your tank it isn't really needed it just limits the amount of crap that could possibly plug it.
If you have the in-tank pump out, just take it to a local auto parts place to find one to match up.
