Calender Bar
New Year's Eve in Augusta, GA?
Is there anything happening in Augusta tonight for New Years that has nothing to do with going to a bar? Or watching the damn ball drop all the way in New York on tv? Fireworks, special city events, etc.? I've checked the city's event calender and absolutely nothing is planned. The Metro Spirit's list is nothing but a gaggle of bars and the Chronicle isn't much better.
Columbia County's website shows nothing under events as well.
I tried to find fireworks and there were none on any calenders. Are there professional fireworks somewhere, because if so, I've not known about them for the 20+ years I've been living here.

The Worst Holiday Gifts Ever Given to Me
Have you ever gotten a Christmas gift that you wish you wouldn’t have opened? Do you ever open a present and say “you shouldn’t have” only to truly and honestly mean it? Well don’t fall off the bar stool just yet, here is a list of the worst holiday gifts I have ever received.
- Calenders: It’s a nice thought but not only do I usually buy myself one before the old year is up, but about three or four other people wasted the time to buy me one as well.
- Workout Tapes: Is this telling me that I have to lose weight? I don’t know about this one. It seems that this is a pretty insulting, albeit constructive gift to give somebody. But in my opinion, only get it if you knew they actually want it.
- Gift Certificates: Some people love these, but me, not so much. I mean they are okay and I use them just fine, they’re a nice touch. But they lack thought. Even if you pick me out something ugly I’d rather know that my mother went shopping with me in mind this year.
- Gift Certificates for Restaurants: Now this is just silly. Do I really want a present to be food? I don’t think so. This is acceptable for an entire family I suppose, but for one person or a couple, kind of disposable.
- Holiday Cards: Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love getting Christmas cards. That is, in the mail only. I love to get mail and it’s a nice thought to waste a stamp on twenty plus people. Handing me a Christmas card at my yearly party however, kind of tacky and not so thought out.
- Clothes: I have gotten clothes for gifts all my life. It’s great when my grandma gets me pajamas, I will wear them nonetheless. But for my boyfriend to attempt getting me the perfect jeans with the perfect butt pockets, I don’t think so. I’d probably be happier with cash and a ride to the mall.
I have gotten plenty of gifts in my life. I have accepted them all as a kind notion but to be honest, some get left behind as trash. I wish these people wouldn’t have wasted their time and money on me but at least I send out holiday cards as a Thank You! It’s definitely the thought that counts and I do remember every gift no matter how little or dumb.
