Brown Ale

Is there a bottle shop in Queensland, Australia where you can buy New Castle Brown Ale?
Is there?
You seriously are in Australia and you want a beer that you can get in ANY bar or liquor store in the US (I'm assuming you're American).
Would you go to Germany and order a Sam Adams, England and order a Budweiser, or Belgium and order a Coors Light?
Find out what the locals drink and try that, expand your horizons a little.

Beer Review: Brooklyn Brewery Brown Ale
Why Would You Homebrew?
Homebrewing beer is one of the simplest ways to cut your beer costs down. If you figure that a lot of imported beers are sometimes $25.00 a case. As a homebrewer you can make 5-6 gallons for that same $25.00.
Considering not just the cost of commercial beer. Making your own beer is a lot of fun. You also meet some interesting people as you go along. People who will likely be life long friends.
Brewing beer is also a great way to try styles of beer that aren't readily available in your area. One beer that comes to mind is Alt Bier. Alt Bier is a lot like an English Bitter.
Alt Bier is more highly hopped than would be expected. This is due to FWH or first wort hops. FWH are added before the sweet wort is boiled. This gives the beer a lot more hop character.
For the Alt Bier is actually one of the only few German Ales. The German Ale yeast is a very clean and versatile strain. It gives the beer plenty of malt flavor and a nice big rocky head. German Alt is a great style for someone who has never brewed beer before.
Another great style for the first time all grain brewer is the English Bitter. If you've never tried one it is one of the most satisfying of styles to drink. Its usually bittersweet with caramel notes.
Its also usually a wonderfully hoppy beer. Usually for bittering, Challenger,Target or Fuggles. Challenger is famous for Samuel Smiths malty Pale Ales. English Bitter is actually in the Pale Ale family with varying strengths and hop levels.
English Bitter is also a style that is hard to get in the United States. There are probably thousands of variations of Bitter in England. Along with other styles such as the English Mild. Northern style English Mild is a true delicacy for the homebrewer.
This style would also be great for the first time brewer. As would a good British Brown Ale. So be creative and make good home brew. Only you can brew the styles that you enjoy.
