Miles Davis often gets credit for starting the fusion movement, but weren't there albums before?

Weren't there albums by other artists that were really a lot like fusion, getting away from melody, that Miles May have borrowed from.

Sam Rivers and Tony Williams were two guys that played in Miles band just before Miles did Bitches Brew. Rivers and Williams were part of the Blue Note scene that was getting way off of the ordinary melodies and scales that were so common in jazz at that time. Bobby Hutcherson, Andrew Hill, Eric Dolphy were doing some groundbreaking, new music. Even Lennie Tristano recorded an avant guard song in 1949. If you pay attention to this music, Bitches Brew is not that far off, except for it was played on electric instruments.

Your thoughts?
Doritos rule,
Yes I am dropping names. These guys deserve some credit.

Slayer,
Thats BS. Miles was in awe of everything Charlie Parker did, back in those days. thats according to Max Roach. Also, he went electric mostly because of Sly Stone. I do agree that Miles was very original.

Take a look at Slayer's list.......

Concentrate on 1969.....

In A Silent Way, Bitches Brew.......

When did Sly have his greatest impact? 1969?

From Slayer's list and being familiar with Mile's discography before and after this pivitol year, I pretty much can say Miles started fusion, going electric, incorporating rock beats and searing guitar solos.

Feeding the fusion were the electronification of Miles prodigies, Herbie Hancock, Joe Zawinal, John McLaughlin, Tony Williams etc....but all after doing their stint with Miles into the 1970's.

Fusion got me hooked on jazz and I've slowly learned to listen and love older forms of jazz and legacy musicians.

Added:

I will even venture out and say that from Jack Johnson, In A Silent Way, Miles had underpinnings of the Jazz Trance even Trance sound, 1969, sonorous floating solos over changing bass beats.......

I've digitized both my JJ & IASW vinyl LPs and have returned to listen to them again and again. As the music is digitized, I've spliced the 2 sides of each record together allowing the albums to play in almost 1 continous song.

Digtizing allows me to cut individual solos and play them as independent songs too.

In a word, I miss Miles. Thanks for the Question.

Brewing is the production of alcoholic beverages and alcohol fuel through fermentation. The term is used for the production of beer, although the word brewing is also used to describe the fermentation process used to create wine and mead. It can also refer to the process of producing sake and soy sauce. Brewing is also sometimes used to refer to any chemical mixing process. Brewing specifically refers to the process of steeping, such as with tea and water, and extraction, usually through heat. Wine and cider technically arent brewed, rather vinted, as the entire fruit is pressed, and then the liquid extracted. Mead isnt technically brewed, as heating often isnt used in the mixing process, and the honey is used entirely, as opposed to being heated with water, and then discarded, as are hops and barley in beer, and or tea leaves for tea, and coffee beans for coffee. Spices could technically be brewed into a mead though. Brewing has a very long history, and archeological evidence suggests that this technique was used in ancient Egypt. Descriptions of various beer recipes can be found in Sumerian writings, some of the oldest known writing of any sort.
