ear tubes at 19 months?
My almost 19 month old has been scheduled for tubes at the end of the month.
He has had 8 infections in the last year.
I have tried chiropractic care, but the infections still come. The ENT said he is suffering from hearing loss due to the fluid in his ears.
Has anyone had a young one have tubes at this age? We haven't had the pre op yet, but I am concerned about how long he will have to go without food.
He sleeps till 6:30 am and usually goes to bed at 6:30pm, it doesn't seem to matter what time he goes down for the night, he is up at 630 on the dot! The surgery isn't till 9:30 and he always wakes up STARVING. Any suggestions other then keeping him very busy for the 3 hours post op.
I have no idea how long he has to be without milk or food prior, and its going to be interesting, lol!
My daughter actually got her first set of tubes at 14 months. She had lots of ear infections, many that went unnoticed until her eardrums had ruptured. Her surgery was at 8:00 AM, we needed to get to the clinic at 6:00 AM for pre-op and anesthesia. She wasn't allowed anything to eat or drink for 12 hours prior to surgery. When they go under, it's very important that the stomach is empty, because the last thing you want is the child to aspirate on vomit. She woke up totally out of it, and screaming, but within two hours, was feeling much better. The tubes were really fantastic. They stayed in for a year, and during that time, she didn't have a single ear infection. As soon as they fell out, she had two ear infections right away. We're waiting on the specialist now to see if he wants to put in a second set.
