What's that Beauty and the Beast knock-off?
It's a book.
They're very poor, the girl was named Beauty and her sister was Hope or something....they move to a new town and the dad rides out but doesn't return...he picks a rose...I don't really remember it, but I have the distinct feeling that while the appliances don't talk and dance, they have a more magic-like effect and can just do things on their own without faces and mouths.
I don't really remember it, but I think I would if I had the title.
Robin McKinley did a book that was a retelling of that story. I think it was called simply Beauty. Not sure if that is the one you are looking for but it's a cute story. She did another version as well. Rose Daughter I think it was called.

How can I feel more confident about myself?
Let me start this off by saying that I know beauty is in the eye of the beholder and that looks aren't everything. But I just feel so self-conscious and ugly all the time. I think I have a disorder called BDD (basically means that you imagine yourself looking like something you're not; feeling ugly all the time, needing to change your appearance). I am cursed with full braces and a herbst appliance and have terrible eyebrows (but let's not get into that), so I'm hoping I'll feel better about myself when I fix those, but in the mean time, how can I feel more confident and be more outgoing? Guys I like just don't ask me out, and I think it's a combination of not being "hot" enough, being too shy, and lacking self confidence. I've been asked out several times this year, but it was never by a guy I would consider going out with. I am VERY shy, especially around popular guys, but I have a pretty good personality.
Hi, I suffer from BDD and I too am VERY shy!, i see a psychiatrist and take meds, read self-help books etc.... so i would suggest to you that you seek help from your doctor for all the help and support you need... That should help... I know how tough it is to have BDD, I've tried to kill myself several times. But don't worry things can get better...its just a lonnnnnnnggggg road to recovery! Good Luck
