what do you recommend I do about this "new" computer i just bought today?

ok so i bought this computer from a liquidation place, they gave it to me from the display. the salesperson explained that this is how they give the same day service because everything is already set up. my problem is that the battery has no life, as soon as i take it out the charger it shuts down in a few minutes. its a hp. should i return it? i bought it for $349.00 . the sales person told me its brand new. does anything sound unatural to you?
