i'm used to the 152 and i just got signed off in the 172.
how do you work the GPS (its a bendix king, backlit, not color, GPS) in detail. and on the RPM gauge there is a part of the green arc that goes from 2500 to 2700rpm that looks different from the rest, is this area of the tachometer for takeoffs only or is it ok to cruise on a cross country with the engine running at 2700RPM? also, is it bad to do weightlessness in the plane at max gross or do you have to be in the utility category?
Lets be straight about flying aircraft. Every aircraft will have a POH or AFM unless you are flying a very old aircraft. In the aircraft flight there should be a section of equipment. The aircraft must have a manual for the GPS and to understand how it works is a requirement before you operate the aircraft. I would recommend you sit down with a flight instructor and have them go over the GSP and any other system until you fully understand it before operation.
As for going weightless it is not recommended. Aircraft may have a safety factor of 1.5% built in, but that was whey they were new just off the assemble line. Over the years corrosion, scratch, dents, gouges and a list of other thing degraded the 1.5 safety factor. The aircraft you are operating may not be at the 1.5, but may only be 1 or less because of age or lack of gook or no maintenance being performed.
