Laptop Screen Issues?

I have a Dell XPS 1645, and recently the lower right corner appears, after I've left the computer on a while, to become whiter, as though a backlight were lighting that area especially. Naturally, I called a customer service rep, who told me to run an LCD BIST by holding D while booting. It beeped a few times, then remained black. The customer service guy told me my lcd has failed and is getting a technician to replace it (as it's under warranty). But when, searching the internet later on, I saw holding Fn while booting produces a wide array of tests, one of them displaying colored bars and asking if I could see them (I could).

Did the customer service rep diagnose the problem correctly?
If you view the screen from less direct angle, the excessive lighting appears to go away.
Also, one white pages it looks almost as though it has a yellowy tint.

obviously the tech support at dell sucks. but what can u expect most tech support guys spent their life in school instead of the real world of computers like us experienced guys.

being as fn works instead of d, perhaps go through the tests again, and pay very close attention to the colors and click no on one.
but on the bright side of things, being as the tech guy said maybe the monitor needs replacing, that would be a good idea because if you are lucky enough they would surely replace it and hopefully with a newer one. in other wards free upgrade.

for example i sent a 320gig western digital black hard drive into western digital, they upgraded it to an enterprise class 500gig se3 drive.
(i was transfering files from my ssd drive to the wd drive it goes at over 100megs a second transfer speed)
ocz i sent my ssd into get fixed mine had no cache early one, they gave me one with 64 meg cache.

just an idea.

Un55B7000 Samsung - Big Picture, But The Problems Of The Backlight

I just got this TV two days ago. As soon as I started to look I saw that the shadows in the corners and along the sides were not nearly as dark as the shadows in the center of the picture. And 'as if there was a gremlin in every corner of shining a flashlight toward the center. I called Samsung customer service and they told me that this problem is caused when packing foam is too tight during shipping, and should go away within 2-3 weeks. If I call and they will send a tech out to look at things. The service representative also pointed out that it is covered by warranty if not go away.

So, honestly I do not know what to think of this TV. When showing images that are dark (or a sports game or scenes of daylight), is portrayed is fantastic. Clear, rich and beautiful. But if your dim light at night and watch a movie that has many dark scenes in it, the backlight problem is very evident. If the customer service rep is right, and the problem goes away by itself in one or two weeks I'll be delighted. If the problem does not go away I'm gonna be a camper depressed. I'll try to update as back as things turn out.

UN55B7000 Samsung - Complaints So Far, the Picture Is Amazing

Only one harvest from Sears this afternoon. Paid $ 2,600 with a 10% discount card at Sears. Replaced a 62 "Toshiba DLP. Compared to 8500 and did not see the value of spending another $ 1K. XBR9 also compared to Sony and Samsung has done for me.

Brought home and was running in 15 minutes. No problem at all. I must say that the colors are just sick. I'm watching the game Boise State, Nevada on ESPN through Cox digital cable (Cox STB connected via an HDMI cable) and the 'blue' uniforms and helmets Boise State is just incredible. Details of the field and the bench are intense. I can see the paint chips from the 'stick' signs on players 'helmets'. I agree with other posts regarding the 3D look. The image opens just outside. Simply amazing.

I tried. I really tried to find problems with the spotlights in the corners. No luck. Perhaps the problems relating to older models. Maybe it's a firmware fix. There is no doubt that Samsung is having problems of QC problems with customer service. If I were living in the spotlight or the random selection of origin or who have experienced other defective characteristics, would be just as shocked as they should be. But this unit is beautiful and I'm lucky ... until now.

As for those complaining about the speakers, I agree. No, we compare systems with 5.1 or 7.1, but are more than enough to 'basics'. I plan to buy a home theater.

I got the additional warranty from Sears based on the comments of other posters. I'm going to watch lots of TV for the next 30 days, as the box is still in the garage. If I experience problems, QC, is going back.

Overall, I highly recommend. Good luck to those with problems.
