Auto Calibration
Will the microphone spot used for automatic setup work for a mini jack input?
I'm looking at buying the Dennon AVR-887. Would the front plug used in the auto calibration/setup work as an audio input from, say, an iPod or portable MP3 player? Is it even the same size? If so, would you select it like any other audio input?
No it wouldn't work for that and you don't need it either.
Dennon AVR-887 has three analog audio-only inputs on the back: PHONO, CD and CD-R/TAPE IN. You must use one of these but they all use RCA white and red connectors.
As portable audio devices like iPod and MP3 players use minijack for audio output you will need to use Miniplug to RCA cable to make the connection. Just leave the cable connected to the receiver and plug/unplug the portable player as needed.
For iPod specific Dennon offers an optional accessory Dennon ASD-1R control dock for iPod (ASD-R1WT white or ASD-R1BK black) that will let you control your iPod with full menu display, photo and video support on your TV using just the AVR-887 receiver's remote and keeping your iPod fully charged.
