Power Supply problem Astec 200-250W????/?
What is usually the component on the circuit board that fails when a power supply goes bad????
I am sorry if I confused someone on this but what I was trying to say is when you open up a PC power supply on the internal circuit board inside the PS, is it one of the transformers that die or is it usually something else such as a resistor, diode, transistor,etc ?????

Trust me on this one, I do have about 10 of them that do not work, heck, maybe we should go in the scrap business together lol !!!!!!!
There are several that will go but I have found most times its the rectifier. I work on a lot of computers and I have a $20 power supply tester that will tell me if one, two or all ports on a power supply is bad. I don't usually take the time to do a repair unless just one low voltage problem is present.
Very rare but sometimes its just a fuse. There are slow-blow fuses inside.
I do however take the fans out of dead ones. Also the diode plates. They are aluminum and I am amassing quite a collection of scrap metal.
Look at the ends of the copper wires on the large coil of wire and you should see they are burned off at the board.
But like I said there are several reasons for a failure and one might be the relay the is supposed to stay on and fails. This is the small black rectangle near the line in.
Hey if you have a lot of them you might get one total in parts but a lot of time to make one out of several.
