Antimicrobial Cleaning
can mineral build up contaminate air?
I have a Vick's humidifier that i use in my baby's room. When i first started using it i noticed white mineral build up on the heating element. So i went out and bought a protec antimicrobial cleaning cartridge. It's just a little ball that sits in the water tank. Ever since i've been using that the white mineral build up has turned orange. (I've cleaned out the humidifier everyday) And no matter what i do i cant get it off. I tried a bleach and vinegar solution and nothing has worked. I was wondering if there is anything harmful in the deposits that could get into the air and make my son sick?
Yes, it needs to sat clean.
There could be something in your own home that causing the machine to get so dirty so fast, (could be in the walls, etc. - who knows at this moment.)
Regardless, when the machine is on, you're placing the dirt into the air and baby's breathing this which defeats the whole purpose of the humidifier.

I went through this once. I couldn't keep it clean. I stopped using it and bought a new one (it was cheap.) Turns out it was something in the home that was causing the build up. (Florida - hurricane damage lead to mold inside the walls!) I had to move and my kids did much better.
