8mm sling as a top rope climbing anchor?
I have a brand-spanking-new Mammut Dyneema Cordelette Contact Sling, 8mm. Blue, quite snazzy.

However, I can't seem to find any shock testing on this piece. Would it be safe to use in, say, a Sliding X anchor? Maybe another type of anchor?
i second what cody said in general, but want to warn you about one thing.
the sling on your link is only 30 cm long. if your sling is also 30 cm, then it is not suitable for a sliding x anchor (well, perhaps it could be used if the two points are very close to each other, but it is not perfect and an anchoring point like that is rare).
when placing an anchor in two points (the most common anchor), you have to think about the v angle between the points. that angle should be the smallest possible, so that the force of the potential fall distributes itself as equally as possible. where i come from we never let the v angle get over 60 degrees, meaning each point of the anchor bears about 60% of the load or less. an angle larger than 120% will make each point take over a 100% of the load of the fall, making it more dangerous than using only one point for your anchor. NEVER allow that.
my point is, if your sling is really only 30 cm long like the one on the link, it's very unlikely you will be able to get the proper and safe v angle in a sliding x anchor with it. so be extra careful about that. you can still use it for pre equalized anchors that consist of two or more slings if its length will fit the length you'll need 
P.S.
the 30 or 60 cm slings are usually more suitable for placing your own safety around the rock forms when you lead and the pitch is poorly bolted (we use them a lot in limestone). 80 or 120 cm slings are generally made to be used in sliding x anchors because they enable you to achieve the smallest v angle.

Summer Crappie Fishing
In Many areas of the country the department of natural resources will create fish attracting structure for anglers, they uses concrete blocks with re-bar and other misc. material. Both Artificial or natural structure is great for summer crappie fishing. This replicates the natural cover and it's a great place to find fish. Use the following methods during the summer months to fish around artificially created structure, and natural cover.
Remember : Fish around any structure, man made or natural, Crappie absolutely love structure!
Step#1 Use about 100 ft of half-inch anchor rope and drop anchor (if you are in a boat) about 100ft from the structure you are going to fish around. You want the wind or current to push your boat towards the attractor.(If you are not in a boat , get an anchor rope, tie an anchor to it , and throw it out there... you will see why in a moment)
Step#2 You can use your normal summer crappie fishing rod and reel setup, and for bait you can use "grass shrimp", if available or "Missouri minnows". When baiting up, make sure most of the hook is hidden inside the grass shrimp.
Step#3 Tie a 1/2" long bass sinker to the end of your fishing line.
Step#4 Tie a number 4 Aberdeen gold hook about 6 inches above the sinker at the end of the line. Bait this hook with (2) grass shrimp, or (2) Missouri minnows.
Step#5 If you are in a boat, drop another anchor to keep the boat from being blown all over the place.
Step#6 Cast your bait as close to the anchor line that you can without getting tangled. Start to reel your bait in very slowly, occasionally "pop" or jerk your bobber using your wrist.While you are reeling in try to stay as close to the anchor rope as you can. Make sure you continue to "pop" the bobber as you reel your line in.
You see, Crappies love to hide in the shadow that is created by the anchor rope. This method can be used when you go summer crappie fishing or spring crappie fishing where there is artificial or natural structure.

The DMM videos are refering to break strength on a factor 1 or 2 fall in a personal tether type situation. This is not the same as building an anchor. Yes, when you are anchoring yourself, you should avoid a fall onto static materials.
BUT…this logic does not apply to building an anchor and equal loading of pieces. Using a dynamic rope will lead to unequal loading of the pieces for the following reason…
Let's use a standard three point anchor equalized into one static masterpoint with rays of 1 foot, 2 foot, and three foot in length for example. Let's use a rope with a 20% stretch for this example as well. I know these number aren't exactly real world, but lets keep it simple. Here's a picture from a random site. Check out the top anchor, this is the most common trad anchor in America and the one I'll use in this example:
So, all the rays are doubled over rope which means that the stretch will be roughly half of a single strand under same loads. So, each ray will stretch 10% of it's length. Therefore, the 1 foot ray will stretch about 1.2 inches, the two foot will stretch 2.4 inches, and the three foot will stretch 3.6 inches.
The problem is that once the shortest ray has reached the maximum stretch, it carries the entire load and the other two are not sharing the load equally.
Therefore, a dynamic rope actually makes the anchor less equalized. Add to that the fact that dynamic rope is less resistant to abrasion and rock edges and the static rope is your best choice. Also, your climbing rope is what adds most of the dynamic nature to the system. So, you are not falling on a static system.
