In foreign affairs, despite opposition from the Senate, Washington exerted dominance. He fostered United States interests on the North American continent by treaties with Britain and Spain. Yet, until the nation was stronger, he insisted on the maintenance of neutrality. For example, when the French Revolution created war between France and Britain, he ignored the remonstrances of pro-French Jefferson and pro-English Hamilton.
During Adams administration, the United States was in conflict with its former ally France. French privateers captured three hundred American ships, claiming the cargo to be British war material. In 1797, Adams attempted negotiation, but the French demanded bribes. He recalled the envoys and outfitted an effective navy. Adams knew, however, that the new republic was unprepared to fight a major war. He sacrificed his popularity within his party to settle the "quasi-war" with France by the Convention of 1800, which was secretly negotiated by his son John Quincy Adams. Adams later said, "I desire no other inscription over my gravestone than: 'Here lies John Adams, who took upon himself the responsibility of peace with France in the year 1800.'"
Fearful of French espionage and revolutionary fervor, in 1798 the Federalist congress passed the infamous Alien and Sedition Acts. Although Adams did not propose these measures, he signed them, as did Vice President Jefferson who loathed them. The Alien Act extended the residency requirement for American citizenship from five to fourteen years, and let the chief executive expel dangerous foreigners. "False, scandalous, and malicious" writing and attempts to stir up opposition became crimes under the Sedition Act. The latter, though inconsistent with the First Amendment to the Constitution, Adams and the Federalists interpreted as a necessary war measure. Adams did not expel anyone and did not prosecute his political opponents, as vigorously as he might have. One of his last acts as president was to name John Marshall, an opponent of the Sedition Act, as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.

Adam Sandler's Best Movie
Adam Sandler has done many movies in his career but only several stand out to me. Three of these are Anger Management, The Wedding Singer, and 50 First Dates. Besides from these movies portraying some kind of idiotic humor, they also had an enjoyable plot.
In Anger Management Adam Sandler teams up with Jack Nicholson to make a very funny movie with a good plot. Adam Sandler loves a girl but he has anger problems so he teams up with Jack Nicholson. Jack is supposed to help Adam Sandler with his rage but he seems to anger him.
The Wedding Singer is a movie where Adam Sandler is a Wedding Singer. He teams up with Drew Barrymore and ends up falling for her. Drew Barrymore is engaged though and Adam Sandler must win her. After Adam Sandler's fiance left him at the stand, he must try to impress Drew Barrymore. Unfortunately, it is a lot harder than it originally appeared.
50 First Dates is a movie where Drew Barrymore has no long term memory. She forgets everything that happens when she wakes up in the morning due to a severe accident she had. Her dad has her replay years doing the same thing over and over again which included reading the paper, going out to breakfast, painting, and watching movies. Adam Sandler meets her one day and wants to get her out of these habits. He does whatever he can to break these habits and have Drew Barrymore fall for him.
The movie that stands out to me is The Wedding Singer. Adam Sandler plays a great character and it the movie goes along with its time. Adam Sandler is great in this movie and if you haven't seen it, you must immediately because not only is it funny, it has a good story and Adam Sandler makes some funny music.
